Consequent care is a MUST in case of neurodermatitis to prevent from skin problems.
Neurodermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease, probably resulting from hypersensitivity of the immune system. Nearly 15 % of people in western countries (industrial nations) are affected.
Neurodermatitis often begins at early childhood and usually declines with increasing age. The disease occurs in stages; different appearance depending on the age. Bend of the elbow, hollow of the knee as well as neck and face are particularly affected.
Affected areas show red, scaly, sometimes weeping eczema during the acute bout. The affected areas have a considerably reduced content of urea.
Between the acute bouts, the skin is extremely dry and sensitive. Therefore consequent care of the skin is also important during this stage.
Besides intensive skin care during all stages of neurodermatitis, affected people should keep in mind the following points:
- A complete nutrition avoiding acid producers and food additives to detoxify and stabilize the immune system.
- Using organic detergents without fabric softener, preferring organic cleaning agents to avoid sensitising substances.
- Clothes made of cotton, linen or silk are more pleasant for the skin suffering from neurodermatitis than synthetic fabrics.
- Avoiding stress, because it can be the reason for an acute bout.
